SUMMARY
Reflection
I think that this project gave me a much deeper look at the limits of public service funding, and how even as little as 25 dog toys can make a difference on, at the very least, 25 lives. Meeting some of the people who have devoted their lives to helping the dogs even no-kill shelters couldn’t take has given me a greater appreciation for the compassion of people, and a greater desire to do good myself.
Project Impact
25 dog toys will be given to 25 dogs and be taken to 25 different homes. Around 35 shirts have been given new purpose and saved from the dump. While those numbers don’t add up to much, I intend to increase them by spending hours socializing, feeding, and working with dogs at adoption events to help them get adopted, to (hopefully!) impact many more lives.
PROJECTS TASKS

Page Week
10.00 hours participating in an awareness event | Curiosity
This was a really great program! I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but getting to see and at least grasp a bit of what happens in downtown Raleigh gave a great glimpse into how much the government actually does that I always took for granted. I got to meet some amazing people with really compassion about the work they were doing!

Project Planning
4.00 hours leading an initiative | Compassion
For planning, I determined that I would like to make around 20 dog tug/chew toys. I had all the materials I needed, many old cotton/polyester t shirts that I would cut up, braid, and tied together to make fully washable, durable, and reusable dog toys. The only thing left to do was to make them.

Do the Project
16.00 hours leading an initiative | Compassion
After using all the shirts I had, I came up with 25 braided dog toys of varying length and width. I got in contact with several organizations and determined that Dog Warriors Rescue had the most need, so I went to deliver them!

Project Outcomes & Reflection
1.00 hour leading an initiative | Compassion
Upon delivering the dog toys, I learned more about the demographic of dog this shelter takes. Most of the dogs there fall through the Wake County shelter system, and when called in, Wake County officials are told to leave the dogs in the streets. At this point, the Dog Warriors Rescue is called in. While talking I learned that this shelter actually takes under-eighteen volunteers, and I will be continuing volunteer work here in hopes of getting these dogs a good home, or at least letting them live a good life.
