SUMMARY
Reflection
I learned a lot completing this service project. When first presented with doing a public service project I didn’t even know where to start. Little by little I found that a blood drive was needed and I could accomplish it. I was able to get a lot of students and teachers to come out, as well as personally donate blood for the first time. The first drive went so well in December that I was able to plan another one in February. I didn’t know I could get so many people to come do such a selfless task and it was very rewarding. There were many people that turned me away very fast, but many who listened. I was very proud of accomplishing this service project for my Durham Public School community. I am planning on doing them again next year!
Project Impact
Northern High had a 14% increase in participation, having over 25 people donating blood. We were able to have 2 blood drives in one school year!
PROJECTS TASKS

Page Week
10.00 hours participating in a workshop | Connectedness
I attended this Latinx Governor’s Page for a week where I learned about the issues in the Latino community in political ways, and met with many leaders of departments to discuss it.

Project Planning
5.00 hours volunteering | Integrity
Durring the study hall period I would go from classroom to classroom to get students to volunteer to donate blood. As well as posting flyers in the hallway and spreading the word on social media.

Publicity
1.00 hour leading an initiative | Connectedness
I posted this on my Instagram and Facebook story to get the attention of many classmates at my school that the blood drive was that day. As well as providing any information need to set an appointment.

Do the Project
8.00 hours donating blood | Compassion
On this day I had permission from my teachers to spend the day leading students to the bus and explaining to them the paperwork and steps to completing the process. I also gave blood during this time and encouraged many of my friends and teachers to join.

Project Outcomes & Reflection
8.00 hours donating blood | Compassion
The drive turned out to be the largest outcome Northern Durham High School has had in recent blood drives over the years. It also encouraged me and the teacher in charge with me (Ms. Couch) to do another one in February that was successful. Also, donating blood saves three lives, and many students were compassionate enough to do so!
